Invest in the UK's natural infrastructure.
Nature is infrastructure, and the UK now pays for the work it does. We finance that work with money from people and companies who invest with us for five years, with tax relief worth an effective 6.2% to 9.1% a year on top of the return.
Capital at risk. Investments are for at least five years and cannot be withdrawn early without losing relief. Tax relief depends on your circumstances. This page is information, not advice or an offer.
How it works
- 1
You invest a sum with Regenerative Finance for a minimum of five years.
- 2
We lend it to the people rebuilding natural infrastructure, against what the project will earn.
- 3
Each year for five years, you claim relief worth 5% of what you put in against your income tax or corporation tax. Unused relief carries forward within the five years, but you need the tax to set it against.
- 4
At the end of five years your money is due back, with the return set out in your investment terms. If loans fail to repay, you could get back less than you put in.
What the relief is worth
Relief of 5% a year is worth more to a higher-rate taxpayer. The table shows the return a taxable investment would need to earn before tax to match it, on top of the return the loans pay.
| Tax status | Tax rateRate | Effective annual returnReturn |
|---|
| Company, small profits rate | 19% | 6.2% |
| Company, main rate | 25% | 6.7% |
| Individual, basic rate | 20% | 6.3% |
| Individual, higher rate | 40% | 8.3% |
| Individual, additional rate | 45% | 9.1% |
Rates as they stand for the 2026 to 2027 tax year; Scottish income tax rates differ. The relief is set against income tax or corporation tax, not capital gains tax. Unused relief can be carried forward within the five years. It is reduced if money is withdrawn early, and it depends on your circumstances and on the scheme continuing in its current form. Responsible Finance, the trade body for community lenders, explains the relief independently.
The risks
Your capital is at risk and you could get back less than you put in. Loans to nature projects can and will sometimes fail to repay. Tax relief depends on your circumstances and on the scheme continuing in its current form. Investments cannot be withdrawn early without losing relief. The guarantee on our loans reduces our losses if a loan fails; it does not guarantee your investment. Regenerative Finance does not give financial advice; speak to an adviser if you are unsure.
The guarantee under the British Business Bank’s Growth Guarantee Scheme is yet to be finalised and confirmed, and is subject to change.
